Today let's look at something other than raptors or Kingfishers. I’ve always been a bit snobbish about photographing Galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla)— they’re not as sexy as raptors— but this one was having such a good time scoffing grass seeds, I had to have a go at creating a sequence. Then I found out that they’re …
You know, sometimes it's hard for an internet sage such as your correspondent to actually live by the trite conclusions he appends to each post as a way of signing off before becoming irritatingly verbose. Yes, this is me admitting that no matter how much I go on about not predicting what nature might do, …
Well, I should have learnt by now that counting your chickens -- or Kestrels, in this case -- is never a good idea. Last year I celebrated the arrival of three chicks in the Block of Flats nest, only to see them unceremoniously whittled down to two, and then one. And of course, just a …
Do try to keep up as we change focus back to our recent travels. Remember how we created a touching photo-essay on the canines of Sicily? Well, not to neglect my roots, I also managed a few shots of interesting people out in the streets of that fine city. We've discussed street photography to a …
We take a break from infrequent travel posts to tell you we're home -- and so are the Nankeen Kestrels. OK, so it would come as no surprise to my seven-odd readers that this blog has been languishing in the doldrums for some time now, with the odd surge of 'content' regarding birds and photography and stuff. The question arises: abandon or rejig? Truth be told, I rather like getting the stew of thoughts in …
Of all the photographic genres, there can be none more hotly debated than that commonly called 'street'. And street photography is certainly one of the most fascinating and compelling photographic genres -- for reasons we'll touch on here and there in the egocentric account below. Now, if I go through a quick tour of my …
